Just wanted to take some time to explain why this song and this project is so important to me. Queer narratives are so rare in mainstream media and it’s kind of my mission as an artist to change that and to bring more queer, especially trans, stories to the fore front of pop music. I wrote Transient almost a year ago, really early in my transition as I was trying to figure out how to authentically he myself as a trans man and make the people around me happy. It was really hard because I felt like my choices were really hurting other people, and it was hard for me to put my needs first which made me really upset and sad a lot. I needed the validation of those around me that what I was doing was ok for me to be ok with it myself. But as months went by I realized that my transition wasn’t for other people but for myself, and even though it may take time for other people to adjust, those who truly deserved to be apart of my life would adjust and adapt. I hope this song rings true as a message to anyone in the closet or struggling with their image of themselves that although the support of others is crucial to a transition, your happiness is most important and to stay true to that no matter what. When I was coming out I didn’t have many role models or support figures to help me throughout my transition so I just want everyone to know that if you ever need someone to talk to you can always talk to me, our DM’s are always open.
